The latest ASICS development in Hockey footwear is a result of rigorous testing using an exclusively designed outsole testing machine at TAPEX twine manufacturers. R&D found that an outsole with a greater number of smaller contact points was able to provide excellent grip for the sport; actually, grip that is even better than an over aggressive cleat stud profile – this new type of sole design also exhibited outstanding release when change of direction was needed.
When tested the Hockey Neo had superior release without any strain on the playing surface which is another plus for this new development. In conjunction with protecting the turf and subsequent biomechanical advantages of the new outsole unit, developers also considered ways in which the foot of the hockey player could be protected. The hard Hockey ball sometimes strikes the foot of the player, often injuring the boney prominences. In a first for ASICS, developers came up with a ‘cushioned’ synthetic leather upper designed to help protect the foot from ball impact.
Similar to many sports involving high degrees of lateral foot motion, it is incredibly important that a Hockey shoe display more midfoot rigidity than a running shoe. ASICS achieved this by incorporating a full width of DuoMax across the midfoot underneath the Trusstic.
